Confessions of a Marketer: 2.0

By: Jennifer Hoyt - Posted April 21st, 2010

Bless me blog, for I have sinned.

Today I said the words ‘Marketing 2.0′. Out loud. To a room full of people. On purpose. I nearly flogged myself for falling victim to such jargony, ad-speak, nonsense. I promise you, I had a good reason and that I won’t do it again. I was talking with a group about how to use traditional advertising (direct mail, magazine ads, TV, billboards, etc.) in new ways and it just happened. Instantly I felt like a phoney. Like somehow those words made what I said less credible. I felt as if I was suddenly just another marketer spouting off about what does and doesn’t work to push my angle.

Do you ever feel like that? Ever catch yourself saying far too many buzz words?

So, the paradigm has shifted. I don’t have enough bandwidth to think outside of the box and I’ve eaten all my low-hanging fruit.

And just for fun here is a list of the current Top 100 Marketing Buzz Words for 2010. 100 and it’s only April?! Wow. Enjoy!
