Hot Trends of 2010

By: Anna Luckey - Posted December 28th, 2010

As the year comes to a close, it’s always important to look back on the past 12 months and glean the trends worthy of rolling over. It’s easy to do this by clicking through various design blogs or ‘image dump’ sites such as www.ffffound.com, which is where most of the following images were pulled from, and finding similarities throughout.

A big trend that popped up this year is lots and lots of TEXTURE. In an age of vector and overly computerized imagery, texture is coming back in a big way. Letterpress and other tactile mediums are allowing for more creative invitations, packaging, and signage, because we naturally gravitate towards something we can interact with.

Another huge trend that has been seen throughout graphic design, illustration, and even fashion this year is COLOR. It seems silly to say this, because when was color ever “not in”, but black and grey are always the default to make things strong, smart, or sleek, so it’s fun to see that 2010 has been…fun!
