With everyone talking about social media (Facebook! Twitter! LinkedIn!), it’s hard not to throw yourself onto the bandwagon. But user beware: social media is only as great as you make it. And you can make it great, but you must put some effort into it (or hire someone who will). Advertising your social medianess in emails and on your website will certainly direct traffic, especially if you offer stuff for becoming a fan, but what if your customers land on your Facebook page and your status is from last year?
If you don’t actively partake in the realm of social media, than you’re not adding any value to your customer’s lives and to your own business. That being said, if you DO partake than you should be screaming from the mountain tops that you’re on Facebook/Twitter/LinkedIn. The more traffic you get to your social side, the more chances your customers will retweet or mention you in their status updates. (If this is all foreign to you, visit this blog to get a crash course in Social Media.
The same can certainly be said for blogs as well. If you don’t blog at least once a week, but you advertise it everywhere and have big links to it on your homepage, you’re setting yourself up for high bounce rates. If you don’t appear to be active in the digital world, your customers will assume you’re moving at a snails pace in the real world.
So take a minute every other day to write something useful to your clientele, and you’ll soon see an increase in followers (and customers)!
